The PS2 version of this game had the best interface (pc version is a bit clumsy), but overall the game play is fun and progressive. At times it can become a bit tedious but the overall story does keep it moving along.
Overall, a game geared towards RPG and content players.

Gladiators of Rome Review

Gladiators of Rome
Average Reviews:

This is a budget title, I realize, but there are still some serious deficiencies in this game. I bought the game before reading any reviews on it, so I just took a chance.
From looking at the box, you would think this was some kind of "sports management" take on gladiatorial combat, or a fighting game, perhaps, but when you go to play the game, it's just a squad-based RTS game. The combat is like Freedom Force ,only much less refined and the end effect is a slow-paced affair to what should be quick and flashy. I really think they could have done better with a "train gladiator, pick fights for him, watch fights" sports management approach than the micromanagement RTS style they chose here. So the actual gameplay isn't very original or fresh, something that I think can be redeeming for a budget game with otherwise low production values. To top it off, the interface is a bit clunky- forget repeat attacks or chaining together commands using the shift key or anything like that.
Only buy this game if the subject interests you and you like real-time squad-based strategy games, and are willing to put up with alot of nits. Personally, I think there are better games out there, though. Even better budget games. Try "Shark: Hunting the Great White", "Dirt Track Racing 2" or "Leadfoot" for better budget games that have actual coherent gameplay.

MONOPOLY 3D Review

MONOPOLY 3D
Average Reviews:

I bought this at the store from the clearance rack for $3.99, and it's not even worth that. First of all, even though you download the software onto your computer, you still need to insert the cd into the computer each time you play. Secondly, the game play with computer opponents is terrible. You can choose from three different skill levels for the computer opponent. The more advanced their skill level, the higher the probaility that the computer opponent will have more favorable rolls, and a higher probability you will have less favorable rolls. This is too bad because I bought the game so my son could play by himself. That being said, the layout is nice, and game play with two or more individuals is nice, but the rating is for the unit as a whole. Skip this cd and buy a different Monopoly cd.

Grand Theft Auto Review

In the editorial review it mentions that you cannot save during a level and that you have to use your windows key to get back into windows to work unless you want to spend a few hours at a time on the game. This is completely untrue. While you cannot save during a mission, you can save during a level. Missions can be short or long but once you complete one you can save. I have little faith in the reviewer for not realizing that saves are achieved by going to a designated save location in the city... after completing the first mission you learn this. He must have been looking for a menu save option that does not exist and apparently did not spend a whole lot of time actually playing this game.

Putt-Putt Enters The Race Review

Putt-Putt Enters The Race
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My 3 year old son loves Putt Putt! He gets such a great feeling of accomplishment when he does all that he needs to do to get into the race! I like it because the goal is not a competitive one where you have to "WIN" or "LOSE". It's more of a goal of getting the tools he needs to complete a certain job. It keeps him occupied for about an hour, which also gives me great opportunities to do housework, etc. without feeling like I'm robbing him of the chance to do something he enjoys! Also, it allows him to use his own creativity & problem solving skills, because he has to figure out how to get some of the items on the list. The greatest thing, though, is when he gets all the items & then goes to the race, he runs around the house laughing & saying "Number 1" because he's so proud of himeself!

Redline Rick is eager to start the race, but Putt-Putt and Pep need a few items before they are ready to roll. Kids join in the adventure as they explore brand-new Cartown locations like Torvil Tractor's farm and Rover's Rocket Drive-in, looking for a safety helmet for Pep. Old friends like Smokey the Fire Engine and Outback Al help Putt-Putt get to the track in time for the big race. As the grand finale, kids hop behind the wheel for the first time ever as they race their favorite purple car toward the checkered flag at the Cartown Speedway! (Ages 3-8)

This game is a must buy for those who have not played RE 3. You start out with any outfit you want, and the action is great fun. My only issue with this game is that I occassionally have some issues loading saved games. Also, the controls are slightly odd on the key board. Aside from this 2 minor issues, get the game! Konung 2 Review

Konung 2

I was OK with the graphics being sort of basic. Not everything can be Titan Quest quality. But, the characters move so slowly, slowly, across the screen, I lost interest in the whole thing. Spent so much time waiting for the hero to get from A to B that in 10 minutes I knew I had just wasted $9.95. Reminds me of games from the 1950's. Yes, before the home computer was invented, we pushed cardboard icons around a board. It is a little slower than that.

XIII Review

XIII
Average Reviews:

This game has a lot going for it. The graphics are great and unique. Of course, the whole cell-shading aspect only carries the game so far. After a few levels, you won't even notice it anymore.
The game has a lot of good content presentation going though. The way it shows important scenes in "picture in picture" boxes makes sense to me even beyond the comic-book look and feel. Some of the gameplay however is pretty unique due to the comic-style presentation. For instance, you can see that guards are about to walk around a corner, because you can see little "tap tap tap" indicators on the screen. This adds a nice spin.
So why only 3 stars? Because of the damn save game mechanism. I mean: Why even allow to save anywhere, if you can only start over at the beginning ov levels?!? This completely ruins the game for me. And I mean, c'mon! Every game magazine criticises this! At every Game Developer Conference, everyone keeps repeating "the user must be able to save anywhere!", yet people still keep messing this up! And in this game this is particularily annoying, because the parts that have to be re-played are relatively lengthy, and (worst of all), one has to watch the same cut-scenes again and again, and there is no way to skip them.

DORA THE EXPLORER BACKPACK ADVENTURE Review

DORA THE EXPLORER BACKPACK ADVENTURE
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have taught preschool computer lab for two years and have used this software this year as well as Dora's Lost City Adventure. My younger 3 year old students find the game a bit hard and need some assistance, but once they have the idea, they enjoy repeating the tasks over and over (which this game is definitely repetitive). My older 3 year old and 4-5 year old students will play this game for about 10 minutes and then want to move on to another game.
The one problem that I seem to have with this software is that students will easily find their way into the sticker album but then get stuck there. It takes some real effort to exit out of the sticker album because the exit button hides itself after a moment.
As a personally note, I have to listen to this software's soundtrack for 2.5 hours per day while working in the lab, and I truthfully get sick of hearing it. Other games have lots of varying music, but this one seems to play the seem music and catch phrases over and over and over and over and OVER! Luckily, since children seem to bore of this game in under 30 minutes, most home PC users won't have to put up with this problem for long.
Overall, your young Dora fan will probably enjoy this software for a short time each time you load it.
NOTE: I have successfully used this software on Windows 2000 Professional operating platform.

SONIC ADVENTURE DX - DIRECTORS CUT Review

SONIC ADVENTURE DX - DIRECTORS CUT
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I will try to make this review short, since there are just too many things I like about Sonic Adventure.
First off, I didn't know this game was released for the PC, since it was released in Europe, and not the United States. The U.S. release got the Gamecube port of Director's Cut, which came with a number of framerate issues and various bugs. These bugs seem to have been worked out in the PC version, which makes it ten times more enjoyable to play.
This game will run on just about any PC, since its requirements are quite low. A 1.8 Ghz laptop will do the job flawlessly in high resolution, which is the best Sonic Adventure has ever looked. It's long, but not terribly difficult, and it's fun to play for kids or grown-ups. I'm almost 25 and I still enjoy it to this day. For the price, you simply can't go wrong.
I should explain one other thing. If you have any CD/DVD emulation software installed on your machine (Clone CD, ect.), you may need to uninstall it, as the game has an early form of copy protection that will pick up on such programs and cause the game to not run.

PANZER DRAGOON Review

PANZER DRAGOON

This a rail shooter with great graphics and music. The problem with this version is that it's incomplete - it has only 4 episodes, while the original (apparently made only for the original Nvidia 3D cards) had 7. So you finish episode 4, and are left with a feeling of incompleteness, since you never have the final showdown with the evil wizard and his dragon.
I'd give it 5 stars IF it was complete.

Cossacks II: Napoleonic Wars Review

Cossacks II: Napoleonic Wars
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I loved the original Cossacks game, and this one is very similar, but only it's during the Napoleonic era, it's a wild, fun game to play, there is some strategy involved, and it's very close to the original, but has a few new differences, there seems to be a bit more to learn, how to control your troops and move them around, but it's still a fun game to play, and the graphics are still good today, even though they are a few years old.
I would recommend this game to anyone that enjoys strategy, and who enjoyed the original Cossacks titles and also Napoleonic era war games, this one is just build and fight.
I looked up the cheat codes online, to me for this type of game, makes it more fund, having cheats does not ruin anything for it.

My 4-year old son loves this program and has been playing it for over a year on a Windows PC. It runs fine under Windows XP. However, I bought an iMac thinking that it would be a better platform to run games, but so far every Reader Rabbit title that we own has choppy audio when running on the Mac. I've scoured the Internet looking for help but none to be found. Can't even find out who the real author of this software is, as there is no web site for The Learning Company (the URL goes to Broderbund Software, but no help available there either). It's a good thing the software is cheap, since if it doesn't work your only recourse is the trash can!

Sega Sonic DX Review

Sega Sonic DX
Average Reviews:

Finally, Sonic Adventure takes it's first leap from the Game Cube onto the PC. Now I can finally play the game that marked Sonic's first run in a compltely 3D envoironment. It was also his first tread on our little Earth. The story: Dr. Eggman has discovered a mysterious creature called Chaos, a water based monstrosity that feeds off the power of chaos emeralds...by devouring them! With each emerald absorbed into it's blue gel-like body, Chaos becomes ever stronger. It's a race against time to beat Eggman (no pun intended) to the emeralds or Chaos will become powerful enough to destroy the world. This title was originaly released on the sadly short lived Sega Dreamcast as simply Sonic Adventure. This second version of Sonic's biggest land mark (before Sonic Heroes) is the so called "director's cut" though not much seems to have changed. Then again this is the first time I've ever played this one. The 3D rendering is a bit new for me (I'm used to playing Sonic in 2D) but it's fun. I've gotten the hang of it. I also love the music, but then, I've always enjoyed the music in these games. I also like the fact that you can play, not only as Sonic, but as one of five other characters as well (as opposed to Heroes in which you play as teams of three). There's also Tails, Knuckles, Amy and two characters who were new at the time of this game's release Big The Cat and a robot with a consience E-102 GAMMA. And even better, each character has their own story line to follow so it's a different game each time you play as a different character! And remember, in a way you're also playing Sonic X, the hit cartoon on 4Kids TV which I am also enjoying. Here's to hoping they release Sonic Adventure 2 Battle on the PC soon too.
