Call to Power 2 Review

I am sure a lot of players might disagree with this review but CTP 2 really has taken some steps in the right direction. If you liked CTP (1) game play interface then you will like this sequel.
The following are the major changes:
Combat - A very important change is the addition of an armor attribute to each unit. This means that the phalanx will no longer be able to stand toe to toe with a tank - it simply won't be able to do much damage even if it hits.
Stealth - Spies will let you see all approaching hidden units. While you'll still need the appropriate defense team to stop the approaching stealth unit
New units, Wonders, and Advances CTP 2 includes the City Planner, an advanced settler option that allows users to build cities that come with basic buildings already included and that have a higher population. The game also has loads of new sea units.
Diplomacy - This area is my favorite in the sequel. A completely new diplomatic model allows you to offer proposals and negotiate counter-proposals with other empires. React in friendly or hostile tones as you confront distinct opponents with more in-depth AI personalities for even more realism. Utilize all-new diplomatic options such as Borders to help define the geopolitical situation. For example, you could threaten to attack a country if they don't give you their maps.
Advances - The game will also include new Wonders of the World as well as new "Feats of Wonder." These are one time, temporary bonuses that you get for performing certain actions. For example, if you're the first person to circumnavigate the globe, you get a sea movement bonus for a few turns.
Other important changes in CTP2 are that the Space playing level has been completely removed and the game lasts from 4000BC to 2300AD (instead of 3000AD of CTP).
Overall, what are you waiting for?! Go get it...

Heroes of Might and Magic III Review

Heroes of Might and Magic III
Average Reviews:

When I first played Heros of Might and Magic (the very first one), I was unimpressed. I had played Warlords, one of its contemporaries, and Heroes I lacked the depth of its competitor.
Fast forward to Heroes of Might and Magic III. What a phenomenal improvement over its predecessors! The art is breathtaking. The music is worth listening to even while you're not playing. The number of units available is staggering. The gameplay is balanced and addictive. In no other game do I succumb to the "just one one turn" syndrome so easily. In addition, the relaxed pace of a turn-based strategy game is welcome, especially after all the real-time strategy games that cover the aisles, walls, and floors of software stores.
And if the maps and campaigns that ship with the game aren't enough to satisfy you, New World Computing has included their map editor to allow you to make your own maps. There are several sites on the net dedicated to archiving other people's creations.
I've been a fan of Might and Magic for 10 years now and this game is easily worthy of acting as the franchise's flagship strategy offering.

Wizard's War Chest Review

Wizard's War Chest

If you could get it for under $[...] no shipping think about it. My suggestions is research gameplay on utube or something and just know its outdated. It cant hold a candle to Disciples, Diablo, Heroes or Warlords chains. I would rate this pack a 5/10 where the Disciples, Diablo and Warlords would get 9/10 ratings. It did play on windows Vista FYI.

Heroes Of Might and Magic V Limited Edition (DVD-Rom) Review

Heroes Of Might and Magic V Limited Edition (DVD-Rom)

This game is superb. Great graphics, good story line, gorgeous CGI and in-game cut scenes, outstanding soundtrack, the list goes on. However, the Limited Edition is not so limited. The soundtrack for the game comes on a DVD, which as far as I know can only be listened to through the TV and DVD player. The disc also contains some interesting and entertaining artwork and game movies. I was unhappy that the soundtrack was included on the DVD and not a seperate CD. The rest of the DVD is nice though. The previous editions of HOMM, 3 and 4, are included on a single disc, which is great. However, no manual or monster chart or anything is included. Nothing else of the sort is included in the Limited Edition for HOMM 5 either. Unless this is a must have, stay with the regular edition. But by all means, get some form of this game as soon as you can! You will not be disappointed!

Warlords IV Review

Warlords IV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Most players that have interest in this turn-based game have probably already played Warlord 3 and those will find 4 to be very much the same old game with some relatively minor modifications. Not that that's a bad thing - I used to like 3 and I like 4 quite a bit too. I like the turn-based style and this is one of the very few turn-based titles remaining. The ability to develop characters is also a plus. Even though they are very simplistic the economic models of maximizing resources under constraints are fun for all civilization and family fans.
The drawbacks are:
- Simplistic strategies - at the end of the day the strategy changes very little from one scenario to another.
- One on one combat - the way the game goes a unit fights another unit then after the battle is resolved the surviver takes on another unit. This style of combat gives almost no chances to even very large armies if they are faced with a single very strong unit. For example, I have a hero with Heal +5, combat 25 and life 50 - the guy can basically single handedly go through almost unlimited number of opposing units.
- Flying units make terrain irrelevant - I think the map could be more of a factor and strategic maneuvering more important had it not been for the fact that most races have some kind of a strong flying unit (Pegasus, Archon, etc.). With the flying units in the game things like control of bridges, crossroads and mountain passes become irrelevant.
Overall, I don't play many games these days but this is one I enjoy. I wish they would change it a little more to allow for a little more varied play and richer strategies but then again I am just glad to see a turn based title - a dying breed.

Civilization 3 Gold Review

Civilization 3 Gold
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off, Civilization III is a fantastic continuation of the 'Civilization' series of PC games which I've been playing since the first one hit the shelves back in 1991. However, I'm not here to give a review of this great game (there are plenty of reviews out there already) but rather to guide potential buyers for choosing which Civ3 version to get (or not get as the case may be).
The Civ3 games are as follows:
- Civilization 3 was originally released in 2001. It is the full, stand-alone game title.
- Civilization 3: Play the World was later released in 2002 as an add-on to the standard Civ3 game. It was generally considered buggy and incomplete and took a few patches to get it (almost) right.
- Civilization 3 Gold, released this year (2003), is essentially the original Civilization 3 game packaged with the "Play the World" add-on.
- Civilization 3: Conquests was also just released (2003) and is the latest add-on to the standard Civ3 game. IMPORTANT: the Conquests add-on includes EVERYTHING from the Play the World add-on plus adds a whole lot more goodies!! In a nutshell, Conquests fixes many of the problems with the PTW add-on and has a bunch of new stuff to boot.
So, my advice to anyone considering buying Civ3 Gold is thus: DON'T! Because you're better off buying the original Civ3 (which is extremely cheap now) with the Conquests add-on. It will cost you about the same for both anyway and you're essentially getting THREE Civ3 titles instead of only TWO.
I hope this helps save you a few bucks to spend on something else this holiday season. Enjoy!
