Spelling Accelerator Review

I love this product! It works especially well since I home educate. You just type in your list words for the week and the program designs the games and tests around the words YOU choose. My 2nd grader loves it and thinks spelling is much more fun now. I would definitely recommend this product.

Overall, I was disappointed. The games aren't that great - and there's only three of them.

I LOVE SPELLING Review

I LOVE SPELLING

I do not think that the product lives up to expectations. There is not much room for personalizing and it lacks creativity in the way the product teaches. I think with a bit more 'elbow grease' and thinking, this product could have been amazing.
More cons:
It does not allow you to enter your own words nor does it allow you to modify any of the word groups given.
Some word groups are disjointed and have no set pattern. Bought this product today and am thinking of returning.

JumpStart Spelling Review

JumpStart Spelling

My daughter liked the product, although she thought it better suited for younger children. Here's her comments:
Hello, I am StoryMaker. I used to use the kid's review form, but now I'm going to have to write on Mom's account. After I am done reviewing, I will let my younger sister, Chocolate Dog, write one. Let's get started!
I have loved JumpStart products since I was in kindergarten. When I was in 3rd Grade, I got JumpStart Spelling from the library. It said it was for ages 5 to 8, so I thought it might be good for my age. Turns out, the spelling words were extremely easy, despite being able to choose your grade level. OK, I've always been a good speller, but this product uses words like "crib" and "grade" - for 3rd grade level! I think that most 3rd graders should know their blend sounds and silent E's by now!
On top of that, this program doesn't have a lot of variety. Most of it is just repeating a certain activity. CJ Frog walks a while until he comes across a plank-type thingy. Whenever he reaches a plank-thing, you guide around a pterosaur named Perry with your mouse and grab falling letters. You put the letters in the correct blanks to make words. After words are made, something happens to cover up an obstacle, and CJ Frog can walk a little farther. They basically do this over & over again. It's not THAT bad, and after all, some people (like my older sister, Russian Blue Witch) think it's pretty fun. However, it could use some variety in my opinion.
Occasionally, you get to play a dinosaur review game. It's simply where CJ Frog says a word and a definition. Some dinosaurs are holding signs with words on them. You must click on the word CJ requests. Not that good, not that bad; an OK little review game.
If you're wondering about the storyline, CJ Frog and Edison Firefly decide to explore "the lost words", a land of dinosaurs & cavemen. A Tyrannosaurus Rex separates CJ from Edison. Edison ends up in a cave where highly unintelligent cavemen mistake him for fire even though a firefly's light doesn't exactly give off heat. (Go figure.) CJ meets up with Perry the pterosaur and the quest to find Edison begins. Not a super captivating plot, kind of stupid, but, heck, can't be a critic. (Not that I'm not already criticizing it.)
However, if you can reach most of the following requirements, this CD-ROM isn't that bad, maybe even a quality spelling product.
*You have/are a child is in Kindergarten or 1st Grade, maybe even 2nd Grade, but not 3rd Grade.
*You can get it for less than twenty dollars, preferably less than fifteen.
*You/your child could probably get hooked to the few activities and doesn't mind the lack of variety OR thinks the story is so good they have to get to the end to see what happens.
*If possible, get it from the library and see if you like it first.
*You/your child doesn't have any trouble with moving the mouse. (Not that I did, LOL)
If you match most of these requirements, it might just be a good game. Signed, StoryMaker. "Gotta trust the kid's review!"
Now, it's time for my little sis, Chocolate Dog, to give her opinions. She was in 2nd Grade when she played JumpStart Spelling
MY title!!!
Pretty good... for younger kids.
(also) 3 stars
This is a JumpStart game with a lame plot where CJ and Edison go to "The Lost Words" And Edison gets blown away by a surprisingly thick sound wave. So, of course you meet a pterodactyl and go to save him. (Edison not the pterodactyl) And now... THE FLOOD OF CRITISM!!!!!!! The words are WAY too easy, each level takes a bit of time to load, the game gets boring too quickly, And last but not least (OK least)It encourages kids to walk on dinosaurs no bigger than the person they're guiding! In short,
it's not too fun it's not too educational but would be good for K and 1st.

I received this software few days a go and it is not what I though it would be. There is no video, audio or even a place to type. Basically it is a multimedia file with text instructions. I wouldn't waste my money although it doesn't cost much. I find it useless.

Super Solvers - Spellbound Review

Super Solvers - Spellbound

My 3rd grade twin boys use this everyday to practice their spelling words each week. They enjoy playing the 3 games to get enough points to make it to the Spelling Bee. There are 5 levels that the kids can work on with all of their spelling words. The 5th level spelling bee is in front of the White House. The spelling bee opponents are funny-looking robots that the boys still laugh at when they see them.
You can create your own spelling lists and activate and inactivate each list for that level. Since it is an older game, the graphics are very simplistic and I have not found a way yet to delete older saved games, but overall it is a great game for practicing spelling.
