Poor Clyde Curfuffle, owner of Curfuffle's Collectibles, has had a tough time lately - he's been through a fire, a flood, and had a nasty fall that's put him in the hospital. Now he needs your help to save his shop. One of the collectibles may sell for a lot of money that will help keep the shop open and he wants you to find that item.
"Can You See What I See?" is a fun and challenging hidden object game. The object of the game is to find twelve specific items and once you find all twelve items you need to find one more object to win the game. You search for the items in different bins in the store - the bins are: buttons; miniature cars; spare parts; games; dinosaurs; plushies; animals; beads and baubles; bins; blocks; junk drawer; and toy robots. After each main puzzle you solve a riddle that will tell you which of the twelve rare collectibles you need to find. Also after each puzzle there is a memory type game that you need to solve in order to unlock part of a phrase that will eventually reveal the location of the secret valuable item.
"Can You See What I See?" has several unique features that make it one of the most enjoyable hidden object games that I've played. The first is that the puzzles are not computer generated but actual photographs by the incomparable Walter Wick (of the "I Spy" book series). Each photograph is wonderfully whimsical and makes the puzzle solving more challenging. For example, the cars section features rows and rows of cars in which you are expected to find things like an open trunk, open car door, or a truck with a bolt in its cab. Fortunately, each puzzle has a zoom in feature in which you can zoom in to one of four sections in each puzzle to find what you are looking for. This is a very handy feature as it is almost impossible to solve the puzzles without using it. The best part is that while you do get time taken away if you click too fast, you don't lose any time for using the zoom feature. Even though there is a time limit, I was able to solve each puzzle within the allotted time limit. There are also plenty of hints available - you start off with five hints and you can get as many as 27 by either finding a character called "Seymour" in each scene or by playing the Jumble Jar games (these have a very quick time limit and you may have to play them a few times until you get the hang of them). The classical music used in the game is quite catchy.
While I really enjoy "Can You See What I see?" there are a couple of things I didn't like. Once you've played the game and finished it, it's not as much fun to play it again because the riddles and final puzzle don't change. You have to find every single object in a game before moving on (this is when the hints come in handy). Also, unlike other hidden object games, found objects don't disappear, they get tagged instead with the tags not always been that visible - this is especially frustrating with Seymour since I never could remember if I had already found him in a particular scene and would lose time if I clicked him again. The memory mini games were more of a nuisance than fun. Some of the riddles are easy to solve while others still have me baffled (number 11 for example).
"Can you See What I See?" isn't perfect, but it's still one of the most intriguing, challenging and fun hidden object games that I've played.
