Tomb Raider 2 Gold Review

I've completed the first three Tomb Raiders now and this is my favorite. The first Tomb Raider doesn't support my graphics card, so it's fun to play but looks horrible. Tomb Raider III was too confusing (had to rely a lot on walkthroughs). In Tomb Raider II, I have the excellent graphics from the third and the straight ahead game play of the first. And the epilogue level had the most wonderful ending. The bonus levels were also a challenge, with a bonus fifth level set in Las Vegas if you got all the secrets in the previous four levels.

loved the graphics (old game so i didn't expect all too much out of it),plot, and game play! Lara's mansion in this game is really cool (with a BMX course in her garden, and a giant aquarium in her basement that you can swim around in, and not to mention a glitch to let you get onto her roof, how can you be bored?!)the story line and enemies were really interesting and kept me entertained for hours. would buy again (and i probably will seeing as how i lost mine :( )and i encourage anyone else who is a fan of lara's games to buy this, too! hope my review helped!

Tomb Raider: The Lost Artifact Review

Tomb Raider: The Lost Artifact

This Tomb Raider is a good one. I had some problems at first, but I still find it to be a lot of fun and really beautiful enviroments. For some reason this game didn't come with an instrution booklet and the games wouldn't seem to save at first. What's fun is there are a lot of lil' hidden things. So far I've seen two. In the second level there are Tomb Raider 2: Gold games at the computers and in the sub level there are Lara Croft pictures near the lockers. It's not the best game but it's still good.

Don't let all the negative comments deter you! I've spent most of my life (28 years) playing video games -- the rest I've just wasted! :-) -- and this is THE BEST I'VE EVER SEEN!
TR III is the SOLUTION to this increasingly sad world of antisocial computer games and the dysfunctional families they ruin. Even though TR III isn't multiplayer it is just as fun to watch as it is to play! My two boys (5 and 2) beg me everyday to play "The Lara Game with us!" Since Christmas we've played about 5-10 hours/week and still are only 1/2 way through. Where else could I get so much family entertainment for $24.00?
Some FUDDY-DUDDYS (who apparently think what their kids are exposed to is more damning than the lack of time/love they provide them) complain there is too much violence in TR III. BUT compared to the gruesome games at the arcade, (which your kids play whether you know it or not) TR III is VERY sanitized! Furthermore, even though Lara has an arsenel of delightfully diverse guns, the point of the game is NOT violence BUT exploration! AND WHAT A BEAUTIFULLY DETAILED (visual and audio) AND EXCITING WORLD TO EXPLORE!
There's underwater caves to swim through, the mysterious Area 51, zip-lines, mazes so complex you need paper and pencil, and my personal favorites -- giant leaps (with or without an ATV) of chasms so deep and realistic it makes my stomach float up into my mouth. To accomplish all these wonderful feats of atheletism, TR III equips Lara with more moves than ever before. In addition to backflips, swan-dives, etc. she can "Monkey Swing" through the tree-tops, crawl on her hands and knees, climb ladders and slick-rock walls, operate several kinds of vehicles, and you haven't lived until you've guided Lara in an all out sprint, with the ground shaking beneath her feet, away from a rocket launch with a wall of fire surging at your heels! Learning the 3rd person interface (keyborad driven) is a bit tough at first, but stick with it because the movie like perspective it affords, once you master it, is well worth the struggle!
As for its difficulty level... Yes, TR III is mentally challenging. It will be a real dissapointment for MORONIC enthusiast of the DOOM/HERETIC/DUKE NUKE 'EM type game who expect to be able to shoot there way out of any situation. The puzzels are rich and diverse, requiring creativity and dexterity (stacking blocks to reach a ceiling grate, flipping a combination of levers to open a door, ducking to avoid laser beams, etc.) BUT they are not illogical nor unrealistic! My 5-year-old is often able to understand what is expected of Lara next and he enjoys nothing more than bragging to his mom about how he helped "Daddy find the secret passage to the lower halls!" Better still, there's multiple solutions to many puzzels! Nevertheless we occasionally have to get help... WHICH BY THE WAY can easily be found on any of a dozen FREE internet sites. There is NO NEED for "resourceful players" to buy the hint book!
My boys and I (and even my wife)love this game. As a parent this game gives me another excellent alternative to "Disney Movies" in which to interact with my kids. They have a blast, learn puzzle solving skills, eye-hand coordination, and I get to monitor, lead, censure (some scenes are a little too scary for preschoolers) and sincerely participate in their fun!

Tomb Raider 3 unfolds in a much less linear fashion than Lara's previous adventures. Lara will once again span the globe from the arctic to the islands of the South Pacific. But this time gamers will be able to choose their own destiny by selecting the order in which they play each of the four main levels. The levels are also more open, with multiple routes to the same end--so choose wisely, or you might miss part of the adventure.

Tomb Raider Legend Review

Tomb Raider Legend

I have been a Tomb Raider fan since the beginning. I fell in love with Ms. Croft the second she unsheathed those dual pistols, just as many other gamers did back in 1996, and followed her to her ungainly demise. After Tomb Raider III, I sat back and lamented the fall in quality, silently hoping Eidos would either just kill the series altogether or find a way to make it work.
Tomb Raider: Legend (the seventh iteration) finds itself in the hands of Crystal Dynamics. Thank god for them, too; they take what was great about the original and revamp it into a good, if not necessarily brilliant, game.
We gain more backstory for Lady Croft in this game than we have in the past. When she was a small girl she and her mother suffered a plane crash in the Nepal. While trying to reach safety, they come accross an artifact that whisks Lara's mom into some strange portal, never to be seen again. It's not consistent with the previous games, but given their lack of interest in a cohesive storyline, that's not a bad thing.
The voice acting is usually quite good, especially on the part of Ms. Croft. To her benefit ( or detriment, depending on your personal prefference), she is alwasy in contact via an earpiece/camera with her comrades back home, so there is always dialogue being delivered. It helps to keep the mood light, and the writing can be funny at times, but it sometimes comes off as corny. Based on various reviews, it's bound to be a love-it-or-hate-it kind of device. Personally, I think it helped flesh out Lara as a character (let's face it; irregardless of her physical form, we don't know much about her, really), but I understand why others might not have.
The graphics are all very good, sometimes bordering on gorgeous. The PC version may look either the best or the worst, depending on your system. For me, it looked great, but on lower-end systems, it might look like a first generation PS2 game. There were slowdowns at times, but nothing that broke up the gameplay.
Thankfully, gameplay can really be a lot of fun. Thanks to the new physics engine, what might have been a typical "insert key in slot A, after backtracking through three levels, then move X number of boxes onto switches" kind of game, the environmental puzzles are much more interesting. The game borrows very heavily from the Prince of Persia games in terms of control and platforming, which is a great thing. Controlling Lara no longer feels like driving a tank, and the mouse-and-keyboard combination is standard. It's not all that original, and Lara isn't as capable a gymnast as the Prince, but it's certainly a step in the right direction.
The downside to gameplay are the now legendary god-awful motorcycle levels. There are only two of them, thank god, but they are absolutely terrible. The graphics get a major downgrade, control is wonky, and they are much too long for their own good. They aren't enough to make you stop playing, but they should have been omitted. Clearly Crystal Dynamics were sold on their "hot chick on a bike" stereotype. The gunplay needs work, too. While it's certainly an improvement on the original's, it's very easy. There is a nifty bullet-time effect you can activate, but it gets old after the 80th enemy you kill using it.
The game is also over far too soon. If it were about ten hours longer than it is, I would have given the fun factor a five, but as is, it simply isn't long enough. It only took me five and a half hours to complete the first time through, although other reviewers have quoted even double that time. Perhaps it's because I'm a Tomb Raider veteran (as well as Prince of Persia veteran), but I simply couldn't imagine it taking anybody, even on the hardest difficulty level, ten hours to complete. The Croft Mansion makes a return, too (with the design of the movie's mansion, rather than the original one we're all so used to), and it is a lot of fun to search through. It might not take too terribly long, either, to discover all the secrets, but it's a nice distraction.
I also get the feeling that this is a test for Eidos to see whether or not to greenlight development on a sequel. The story ends on a cliffhanger, and as a whole it feels episodic. I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel, though, as long as those darned bike levels were removed. At last a Lara Croft game worth its wait in cardboard!
Pros:
Great graphics
Fun gameplay
Better storyline than in the past
Great return to form
Cons:
Terrible motorcycle levels
Far too short
No incentive to replay
Gunplay is weak
Hopefully the next Lara game (we all know there will be one) will utilize the great things this game does, and improve on its weaknesses.
