MARVEL COMICS: AMAZING SPIDERMAN UNMASK Review

MARVEL COMICS: AMAZING SPIDERMAN UNMASK

Whether you purchase the GitCorp DVD Marvel comic book collections, or you (cough cough) Torrent the files, the reality is that the pdf files used for these collections are a user-unfriendly format by which to view comic books. Especially if you want to view them on a tablet.
I recommend downloading Jonty Lovell's Comic Converter (just google it) and using it to convert the pdfs to the cbz files compatible with dedicated comic viewers like CDisplay Ex, Android Comics Viewer, or Perfect Viewer.
Depending on the horsepower of your PC, converting a full year's worth of issues files - say, around 125 MB of pdf files - to cbz files compatible with dedicated comic book viewer software takes less than 5 mins. You can use Comic Converter to customize a number of details about the conversion process; it's a very user-friendly app.
Do keep in mind that the converted files are many times larger than the pdf originals; so 12 issues of pdf files that take up 125 MB will balloon to 300 MB when converted to cbz format.
I used Comic Converter to convert the pdfs from `SpiderMan Unmasked' to cbz files and was quite pleased with the results on my Acer Iconia A500 10" tablet.
Because GitCorp uses a double-page, landscape orientation to display the original comic book pages, I had to spend 5 minutes or so tinkering with the settings in Perfect Viewer, after which I was able to view the comic in a single page, full-screen, portrait orientation.
Viewing the cbz files on your PC desktop monitor, laptop, or on a tablet, is markedly superior to the native pdf system.

Fantastic Four and Silver Surfer - Complete Comic Edition Review

Fantastic Four and Silver Surfer - Complete Comic Edition

I was very excited when Marvel and GIT Corp came out with these products. Now instead of collecting every single comic book you can now simply pop in a DVD-rom and get every single issue you could have ever dreamed of!!!
I am a big fan of the Fantastic Four and the Silver Surfer comics are simply a throw-in in which I would be happy to take. The Fantastic Four were created so amazingly like a real life family that one must give Stan Lee and Jack Kirby their due. The villains of the FF are unreal starting in issue #1 with the Mole Man and moving on with issue #4 and the Sub-Mariner. The greatest villain of the Marvel universe makes his appearance in issue #5 in the form of Dr. Doom. Doom would go on to be one of the most famous comic book villains of all time ranking up there with the Joker, Lex Luther, Darkseid, and the Green Goblin. (Also remember Star War fans that Darth Vadar's suit was influenced by Doom's). These issues also cover the famous Silver Surfer and Galactus story lines starting in issue #48. There are so many first Marvel appearances in these issues like the Skrulls, Klaw, Black Panther, Negative Zone, Blastaar, Diablo, Pyscho Man, Molecule Man, etc. that the FF simply must go down as one of the most defining comic books ever sold.
This set is amazing and any one who does not want to pay the money for every issue (start saving because thats 750 comics) this is for you!!!!

40 Years of the X-Men Review

40 Years of the X-Men

First off, this isn't a game, or a movie. Its a DVD-rom that can only be viewed on a DVD capable computer.
THE GOOD
This the first 40 year run of the comic book X-men, currently titled Uncanny X-Men. It includes issues 1-461, in order by year, including Giant Size X-Men 1. It also includes all the annuals in a separate menu. These are high quality scans, all in PDF format.
THE BAD
This includes ONLY Uncanny X-Men issues. Thats all fine and dandy, until you get to the mid-80's when X-Factor and New Mutants began their runs. So when you get to major cross over events, like the Mutant Massacre, Inferno, X-tiction Agenda, X-cutioner's Song, and the minor ones inbetween, you only get the Uncanny issues. This leaves some major holes in the stories. Sure, you can go buy the TPBs of the crossovers, but then you're re-buying the Uncanny issues. All the Age of Apocalypse is missing too, along with X-franchising one shots like X-Men Prime.
THE UGLY
You'll have to play around with the viewer settings to make the pages readable on a standard screen, without making them too difficult to flip through. All pages seem to be scanned in two page spreads. And all the original ads are intact.
Overall, its nice in and of itself, I just wish something could have been done about the cross-overs. That and the general lack of knowledge about this product here on Amazon and on the net in general are probably making this a rough sell at $50.

Ghost Rider the Complete Comic Collection Win/Mac Review

Thank you Marvel, not only for releasing this great series on an easy to store and read meduim, but also for not including onorous, paraniod DRM on the disk. These are basic PDF files. I was able to copy the DVD to my hard drive and put the DVD away in a safe place. I can view these comics on any computer at home, and even on my Palm (although it is pretty hard to read there). If only the RIAA would take its cue from Marvel! This is a stunning product! Even the ads and staple holes are there! Just like the real thing, without having to keep it in plastic!

Avengers - The Old Order Changeth Review

Avengers - The Old Order Changeth

I haven't had a chance to read all the issues yet but I just want to say I really enjoy the option of having a small library of comics at your disposal with the click of the mouse. Single issues get to be a nuisance to maintain and store. Trade paperback and hardcover editions of the comics omit part some charm of reading the single issues, like the bulletin page, house ads or letters pages (when they still have them). I really don't care for "renting" the comics from Marvel's digital site and the library is still a work in progress, with gaps in many runs. Until something better comes along that merges the best of both formats, this will do nicely. I also have one of the Fantastic Four and for me that was a "must have".

Amazing Spider-Man - The Last 20 Years Review

Amazing Spider-Man - The Last 20 Years
Average Reviews:

I LOVED this idea. Collect all of the comics I'd never have the nickels to rub together onto a digital format for future viewing and reading. HOWEVER - this covers only the last 20 years. Even if that's the only portion you're really interested in - for just a few bucks more, you could have The Amazing Spider-Man: the Complete Collection which collects all of the comics from Lee to the present.
By the way - don't make the stupid mistake I made. The original CD collection plus this does not a complete set make. You miss out on the first 19 annual issues. If you're going to read them, you're going to want to be complete (unfortunately)...
Now, I'm trying to complete my (nearly) complete set again - ugh. Why do I not read these reviews?
