We couldn't figure out how to post a link that leads to the next page and you have to use the links they let you have but we didn't even know about any of the sites! And then when we made a wonderful 1-page site, when we tried to publish it said "There are no files to publish." Honestly, HTML is easier. Good thing we only got it from the library. (More customer reviews)I consider Suitcase to be an essential tool for a graphic designer. Especially one with numerous fonts -- such as myself. It's great and I can't live without it. I give it 5 stars, for its excellence in use, even though there are a few things I'd like to see diferent. Suitcase automatically opens up closed fonts in Quark XPress (they're owned by the same company) and my only complaint is I'd like to see that feature work with Illustrator and other programs.

Fontographer 4.1 Review

(More customer reviews)I've wanted this program for 14 or 15 years, now, but being disabled doesn't pay like it once did, so I've had to do without. I eventually bought a tiny ($99) font editor that I could never get to work, so I uninstalled it and may still even have the files around somewhere.
Finally, after years of trying, I qualified for educational status for my nonprofit and tossed a copy of Fontographer into my basket with the buggy and poorly designed MX 2004 Studio. (The bug fix for the Studio is Version 8, by the way.)
I finally got my system set up the way I wanted it: new 3.4GHz screamer, four gigs of RAM (allowing me to run every application on my HDD simultaneously while downloading files and burning a CD -- no kidding!), and two 19-inch flat monitors (one for the dialogs and one for the canvas, of course). And, naturally, I did grit my teeth (too lazy to look up the *real* past tense of the verb *to grit*) and installed Windows XP (Ecccccch! Pftweeeee!, like the sound of an adolescent expectrating a gooey lunger).
That's when my troubles started, as far as Fontographer goes: No sooner did I have just the right system that would justify putting some time into creating some killer fonts of my own, Fontographer does not run on Windows XP.
Bummer.
And the new owner (the same guy who wouldn't support that $99 toy I bought years ago) is the same guy who now owns Fontographer. His official policy, when you read between the lines, is to not support the program, even if you bought it right off the shelf last week. He claims he hasn't been able to replicate the problem.
Here's a clue, dude: (1) get any computer that supports Windows XP (2) install Windows XP and patch it with SP2 (or install the SP2 version from the get-go) and (3) install the version of Fontographer that currently ships (the one that doesn't need any patching). That's it: you now have a copy of Fontographer that doesn't work. And that's not all! You've also experienced the magic of the disappearing dollars that those who fail to read AMAZON Customer Reviews know so well!
My hypothesis: I forget how many hundreds of dollars this guy's deluxe font editing program costs, but if you want to edit fonts, buying this package (from him, of course), is your only real option at this point.
My other hypothesis: He knows this, of course!
As my title suggests, I'd give this ZERO stars, for not working at all (dead out of the box, as we used to say in the consumer electronics industry), but they don't have a "Zero Stars" rating.

Solitaire Topload Notebook Case Fits Up To 15IN Notebooks Review

(More customer reviews)This was originally purchased for my laptop, but has since been used as a nice, functional bag for carrying around my netbook. It's a little big for a netbook, but I like that it has lots of space/pockets to carry other essentials such as a mouse, power cord, external optical drive, etc., without being so big as to be too bulky.
It has all the features the bigger, more expensive bags have without the high price. It's good quality construction - all the zippers work well - and it's held up to lots of use. The carrying handles are well made as is the shoulder strap. The handles are not adjustable but the removable shoulder strap is. It's made for a 15" laptop and has a nice, padded area with a hold-down strap to keep the lappy secure.
The reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the fasteners on the outside flap pocket. There's 2 snaps to hold the flap closed, and I can't get them to line up easily to snap them in place. You have to tip the bag on it's side to see where the snaps are to line them up - perhaps something like velcro would have been a better choice for a fastener. (I purchased some black, glue-on velcro to put under the flap, but just haven't gotten around to putting it on yet as I never used that front pocket for anything important.)
Weight was a consideration when buying this - it weighs about 2-1/2 lbs with the shoulder strap.
This is touted as a woman's bag, but other than some light-colored padding inside, I don't see any features on here that don't appear on a man's bag as well. The description says the padding is a pink color, but it's not a bold pink - it has a beige/tan quality to it. I had to look twice and take the bag outside to really see any pink tones in the color (that's just my humble opinion). Good item at a reasonable price.

Extensis Suitcase Fusion 2 for Mac Review

(More customer reviews)I work as a professional designer and this product sucks on my office computer as well as my home computer. I depend on this very heavily in my workflow and I am tired of all the problems that I have had with it! It would be great if it worked, but half the time I start my computer the font vault (which the program depends on) clashes on launch. This means you can't access any fonts inside of it or use Suitcase Fusion. I have had projects where I could not finish my work until I had gotten this thing up and running again. Plus it has held me back on some new projects because I have wanted to use fonts in the vault, but couldn't because it kept clashing. I would look at another solution for font management because this solution is not reliable.

Print Perfect Business Publisher Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this software to create stationary and other projects for my small business. For a "business" application, the graphics are cartoonish and outdated, not professional at all. It comes with 12 CDs which is really a hassle to swap them out. For an addition 10 bucks you can "upgrade" and send for a DVD. Why not give this option at purchasing? It claims to have web site creating capabilties, which turns out to be a separate stand-alone program (if you can fine it among 12 discs) and is an old 2000 version of CoffeeCup's Visual Site Designer which has limited functionality. The graphics editor is not very sophiticated. I was using an old version of Microsoft's PictureIt and thought by purchasing a new "business" publishing software I'd get some new professional looking graphics and new features, but I needn't have wasted my money.

Pantone Solid Chips three book set Review

(More customer reviews)Since Pantone has a monopoly on the color printing market, my purchase was a 'pick your poison' exercise. I prefer the book layout to the skinny fan option for a couple of reasons.
1. It's much easier to find and remove the perforated chip for color matching purposes than it is to hold up the fan version and shield your eyes from the other colors.
2. If I need to send a customer a variety of chips for display purposes, the only practical option is to have a removable chip book, unless you want to give away your fan book every time.

(More customer reviews)As a graphic designer, I bought this software for use with my freelance work. This software boasts 750 fonts. Nowhere on the box does it happen to mention that the fonts can ONLY be used for personal use. I had to open the box first, after I had purchased the program. Now, all 750 fonts in the software are completely useless to me. Heck, they could offer 10 million fonts in their software packages if they want, but what good is it if I can't use them for my freelance work? Aside from being deceived about the fonts, the FontManager software they boast about requires the CD be inserted into your computer for it to work. That means that if you're designing something (as you would presumably be doing with this font software) you couldn't insert other CDs, like for instance, stock art CDs -- all because this inferior piece of junk software must use that CD drive in order to work. I wasted $30 on this useless piece of junk. Please don't make the same mistake.

The reason that the off feature is important to me is because there's one game that I have that won't run when this program is on. Anyway, there are malisous programs that this sofeware just won't spot so I removed it and am using something else. I would say that it isn't the worst program, but it's not the best either. There are free programs that do a better job.

We knew our way around Adobe Photoshop, QuarkXpress and Adobe PageMaker, so we figured we were ready. Boy, were we wrong. We soon discovered we "didn't know jack" about fonts. We experienced reflow problems, missing fonts and other foul-ups, and our printer terrified us with even worse horror stories about what can happen when good type goes bad. Thankfully, a graphic designer tipped us to Adobe Type Basics. The CD (for Windows or Mac) contains 65 of Adobe's most popular typefaces, including test, display, script and symbol styles. It's a generous variety, without being overwhelming. An unexpected bonus was the inclusion of the Adobe Type Manager software to help organize our fonts. Adobe Type Basics is a great value.
