You may need to use the Program Compatibility Wizard or you may need to get offline and close your anti-virus, anti-spyware, pop-up blockers and other assorted rubbish that starts up with your PC as they cause software conflicts, stopping some software from being able to be installed.
I came across an issue with one particular graphics card where it played it upside down, but Googled a quick fix and have never looked back. I have tested it on 5 separate desktops with success.
Only laptops could have legitimate issues with installation, but desktops should be fine if one of the above suggestions are used. Laptops are notoriously problematic with games, frankly they are not designed for them - they are mostly used for business apps, email and the Internet.
